“A mother is born when she gives birth to her child.”
The Mother Blessing is a ritual rooted in Native American traditions. It strengthens and supports an expectant mother as she transitions into motherhood.
Most western birth preparations focus on the baby’s wellbeing. The mother’s emotional and spiritual needs often get overlooked. This ceremony is all about blessing the mom-to-be and her baby. It offers protection and gathers positive energy for the journey ahead.
During the ceremony, female family members and friends gather around the mother. Together, they provide love, support, and strength. The ritual connects with ancestors, spiritual forces, and Mother Earth. This creates a safe and nurturing space where the mother can feel held, honored and safe.
A small bundle of wishes is also prepared. The mother can open it during labor or when she needs strength. Afterward, the bundle is closed and passed on to another expectant mother.
Anyu brought this ritual from Mexico. She shared it with her students Junis and Indira. It is usually held 1-3 months before the birth.
If you feel called for yourself or a sister into this ceremony, let me know and we will make it happen.
